AS & AA Program—Curriculum
About Us: Our faculty are visual media professionals with real-world experience as visual and graphic designers, web developers, production artists, game designers and developers, illustrators, and offset and digital printers who bring their expertise to the classroom. Our classrooms include state-of-the art labs featuring Mac workstations, and our facilities span both Ocean and Mission campuses.
The department maintains seven separate Macintosh computer labs distributed across the Ocean and Mission campuses. Each lab is equipped with industry standard Adobe softwares, an extensive collection of fonts, scanners for digitizing original artwork, and a variety of output devices.
This hardware infrastructure directly supports the learning process across the range of courses offered by the department. Our classes are held in rooms that are often adjacent to computer labs, allowing for a seamless transition between lecture, critique and computer demonstration. Small class sizes that allow each student in digital courses access to their own computer round out the personalized experience that students receive in our program.
The department also maintains a complete offset printing facility, with eight separate printing presses, including a 1000 series Indigo for full color projects. These traditional presses are supplemented by a Xerox Nuvera that operates in a fully digital workflow. All of these presses are used for hands-on classroom activities, and to print projects produced in our advanced courses.
Emerge Studio is a full-service design studio for the City College community, providing high-quality communications pieces for a broad range of projects and services, including internships.
